All about container inspections

CSC inspections

CSC (Convention for Safe Containers) is the international convention on safe containers. All containers used in international transport must meet the requirements of this convention. New containers receive the CSC container inspection at the factory, after which a CSC plate is attached to the container doors. This plate is valid for five years and contains details of the container, such as the type, manufacturer, year of construction, serial number, weight and the validity date of the plate. No more than five years after the initial inspection, the container must be CSC-approved again by an authorized trade company.

Visual DNV inspections.

DNV is the abbreviation for Det Norske Veritas. The organization provides certification of welders and welding inspectors. A welding inspector is responsible for visually inspecting welded joints. The inspector does this inspection on the container according to established standards. If the inspection has a positive result, and thus the welding is safe, the container receives a certificate.

On hire/off hire surveys

When renting containers, one of our specialties, the inspection of each container is very important. Of course, you want to be sure that you are renting a safe, solid container from us. To ensure this, we perform on hire and off hire inspections. An on hire container inspection reflects the condition of a container when you rent it. At the off hire container inspection, we check that the container is returned in the same condition.

MPI survey

MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) container inspection makes it possible to detect hairline cracks in materials in a timely manner. With magnetic examination, these cracks can be detected in welds and load-bearing structures. In this inspection method, a magnetic field is introduced into the material. Where cracks and irregularities appear, the magnetic field is disturbed. Thus, abnormalities can be detected early and repaired.

CSC inspections for modified containers.

R.C.C. Container Trading in Rotterdam modifies many containers. In our workshop we provide customized containers in the form of wicket doors, windows, lighting and air vents. After the modification on the container, another inspection is required. This can be requested based on the drawings and calculations that need to be made in advance. When a container is built according to drawings and the CSC inspection has a positive result, the modified container receives a new CSC plate that is valid for at least one year.

The inspection of a rebuild open top container

After repair, a container with us also receives a CSC plate that is valid for a minimum of 12 months. The exception to this is the rebuild open top container. These containers, which we build ourselves, receive a 30-month CSC plate after the container inspection. The rebuilds are also DNV/GL certified.

We work independently

To ensure safety and independent inspection, some container inspections are done by independent inspectors. They come to our depot for the inspection and certify the container in question on the spot. In short, R.C.C. Container Trading in Rotterdam can facilitate any inspection.
